It is with great sadness, that I heard the news yesterday of the death of Chris Van Heghe, a leading figure in Wings of Memory. I met Chris on several occasions while serving in Belgium, including during the ceremony to commemorate the loss of the 57 Squadron crew of DX-P at Lierde in 2012. He was a great aviation enthusiast, a keen historian of World War II aircraft incidents and accidents, and the master of ceremonies for Wings of Memory. In this latter role he always ensured that each memorial service was conducted with huge respect and dignity. Chris, along with his passenger, was killed when the motorised glider they were flying crashed near the village of Celles in southern Belgium on 8 September. At just 45 years of age, he leaves a partner and 2 children. He will be sorely missed.
RIP Chris
