The Association was saddened to hear of the passing of Garth Green. Garth made a huge contribution to the Association as the Membership Secretary, running raffles at our Annual Reunion, and organising the visit to the Airmen’s Chapel in Lincoln Cathedral during our Reunion weekends until he stepped back from these roles in 2012.
Garth’s father, FS Sydney Charles Green, was a Mid Upper Gunner on 57 Squadron and lost his life when his aircraft was brought down by enemy flak during a raid on Harburg on the night of 11 November 1944. Tragically, Garth, who was born in 1945, never met his father.
Garth passed away after a lengthy illness in February.
RIP Garth – Per Ardua Ad Astra
Many of our ‘older’ Members will remember Garth’s energy, enthusiasm and unstinting commitment to the Association.
An ever-present at the Association Reunions and other events for many, many years, I will also always remember travelling with Garth to overseas Memorial Services where his dedication to preserving the memory of our WWII Bomber Command colleagues, including his father, was fantastic to see.
We’ll miss you Garth, but will remember you, your father, and all his comrades.
