Members will recall the lengthy campaign to gain formal recognition for the service of Bomber Command crews during World War II, which led to the decision to award the Bomber Command Clasp to the 1939-45 Star to eligible aircrew.
There have been recent further calls for the decision of 2013 to be revisited and a dedicated medal awarded. Campaigners have gained the support of a cross section of people including, veterans, historians and members of both Houses of Parliament, and are urging the Government to look at the case again.
The campaign has been invited to submit its case to the Honours and Decorations Committee, who’s chairman has confirmed that it will be included in the process of the re-establishment of the new Advisory Military Sub-Committee. The campaign is seeking to add the names of more campaign supporters to the submission’s covering letter.
Association Members can find further information about the campaign on its website here and give their support by signing the online petition and/or contacting the campaign directly on office@bombercommandmedal.com
