Did you serve with Bomber Command at any stage during its existence from 1936 to 1968?
If so, the International Bomber Command Centre (IBCC) would like to hear from you.
To mark the 85th Anniversary of the formation of Bomber Command, the IBCC (https://internationalbcc.co.uk/) will continue to remember the courage and sacrifice of all those who served with Bomber Command in WWII, but is also expanding its focus to commemorate all those who served with Bomber Command between its formation in 1936 and its demise in 1968 when Bomber Command was subsumed into the RAF’s Strike Command.
To commemorate the Anniversary, the IBCC will be holding a commemorative luncheon at the IBCC on 14 July 2021. If you are a Bomber Command veteran and would like to request to attend that luncheon, please contact the IBCC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Nicky van der Drift (Telephone 01522 514755; email nicky@internationalbcc.co.uk). Please note that there will be a limit to the number of people who can attend the lunch, so all requests to join the event will be considered on an individual basis by IBCC staffs.
More broadly, the IBCC are very keen to capture ‘oral histories’ from veterans who served in Bomber Command at any stage between 1936 and 1968. If you would like to be interviewed to provide an oral history of your Bomber Command (and wider) Service experiences, please contact Mrs Nicky van der Drift (contact details as before).
Finally, the IBCC would like to expand their digital record of documents relating to individuals’ service in Bomber Command between 1936 and 1968. If you would be willing to allow the IBCC to make digital copies of your Bomber Command-related diaries, letters, photographs etc., please contact Mrs Nicky van der Drift (contact details as before).
The IBCC is playing a major role in highlighting the courage, devotion to duty and self-sacrifice of all those who served with Bomber Command during the Command’s 32 year existence – we hope that the 57 Squadron and 630 Squadron Bomber Command veterans will be happy to support the IBCC’s efforts.
