Jack had a long flying career in the RAF, joining-up in 1943 and, after training as a flight engineer, serving with 635 Squadron and 78 Squadron before joining 57 Squadron in April 1949 flying the Avro Lincoln. He later flew with a number of Coastal Command Units operating the Avro Shackleton.  In 2007, Jack took part in an interview, where some thoughts about his time in the RAF were recorded for posterity. This interview begins as Jack is about to join 57 Squadron at RAF Waddington in early 1949, and reflects upon his experiences in training, operations with the Squadron in Malaya during 1950, and a posting to the Central Gunnery School at RAF Leconfield in 1951.  The interview can be heard by simply clicking here
