Memories of Sqn Ldr Duncan Taylor – 57 Sqn 1940

Following the withdrawal from France, 57 Squadron’s Blenheims were relocated to Scotland to take part in anti-shipping strikes in the North Sea and against German-controlled positions in Norway. Duncan joined 57 Squadron in 1940 fresh from flying training, before moving to 105 Squadron.  In 1992, Duncan took part in an interview, where some thoughts about his time in the RAF were recorded for posterity.  This recording begins with Duncan’s earliest childhood memories in Elgin and Manchester, before he enlists into the RAF in 1939 on a short service commission. He reflects on the quality of flying training, and the allocation of trainee pilots to various aircraft types, before talking of his time on 57 Squadron flying the Blenheim and attacks on German coastal shipping and Norwegian airfields.  The interview can be heard by clicking here
